Northern NH Bird Dog Club
International Cover Dog Puppy Classic was judged by the Jim and Deb Kennedy. Tim Post, Futurity secretary from NY was on hand for all of the running and made sure it all went smoothly. Results 1.) Maggie PF; Mike Flewelling Handling 2.) Long Gone Murphy SM, L Murray handling. 3.) Bud PM, Mike Flewelling Handling. It was a good stake with some quality performances and some broke bird work! That Maggie b###h of Mikes" is a hell of a female and just won the Grand National Grouse Puppy Classic. Bud, John Stogitis' male pointer looked good this morning and had a broke find to go with a forward classy race. In the open derby this afternoon Kellie Short and Steve Sumple looked a very strong group of derbies and we thank them both for their time and efforts. results. 1.) Magic's Climb K-2 SF; Dave Hughes handling 2.) Rockaway SM; Dave Hughes handling 3.) Long Gone Madison SF, Dave Hughes handling. It is interesting to note all three placed dogs had both work on wild and liberated birds. Rocky had a woodcock in the 7th brace, Maddy in the 6th and K-2 in the 5th, all on single course, in addition to "plenty" of quail. It looks like if we have a dry hatch, we will have a LOT of birds, both grouse and woodcock to train on this summer, and hunt this fall.
The results of the Granite State Shooting Dog Classic were. First; Long Gone Madison with Dave Hughes handling. Second Long Gone Nixon with some gray haired guy handling. and third was "Toxi" also with Dave Hughes handling. Every brace but one had work on wild birds. Most dogs pointed (or contacted!) ether grouse or woodcock in their hour (some both) Nixon had two woodcock finds in addition to quail. Toxi pointed three types of birds in his hour, a grouse find, a woodcock find and a quail find. No birds were on nests!!!!!! Weather was fall like, temps in the low 50's. Today the open puppy classic runs and the open derby.
The Northern NH Bird Dog Club finished up our three day event yesterday. It was cold in the morning with ice on water buckets, but my mid afternoon it was pretty hot, temps in the low 70's. The day started with the NH Amateur Puppy Classic, judged by Invitational Secretary George Johnson and his wife Shirley, from Braford, PA. Winning first with Steve Sumple handling was Allegany Quick Jimmy, second was Long Gone Murphy with L Murray and Third was Sadie B with Tony Bly handling. Both Jimmy and Sadie have multiple placements in PA open puppy stakes. Next was the Amateur Derby Stake, Judged by Tony Bly and Dave Hughes, Thank you to both men for walking for us in the heat. First was Allegany Shady, again with Steve Sumple handling. Shady just won the National Walking Shooting Dog Futurity a couple of weeks ago in Western PA. and it is not hard to see why. Shady nailed a woodcock with good style at 15. Second was a big tri colored setter named "Preacher" who ran a big race with one broke quail find. Third was Long Gone Murphy who had one broke quail find to go with a large and rather rough race. K-2 Climber ran a championship race for Timmy Post but could not come up with a bird. The Amateur Shooting Dog was next. Bob Lang and Ryan Frame looked over this group of dogs for us. Winning first with a scouted grouse find, a scouted woodcock find and a scouted quail find was Long Gone Madison. Second was Bog Brook Wilma with two good quail finds and a forward race for owner/ handler Thom Richardson. Wilma is a former winner of both the Woodcock Futurity and National Grouse Derby Classic. Third was a classy setter male named Micky owned and handled by Alex Reid from Mass.. Next was the half hour open shooting dog voluntary qualifier. Peter Mazzalia and Lloyd Murray judged this stake. Winning first with a stunning performance was Jars Way Right, or Obie, with a powerful race and two broke finds. Second was Bog Brook Wilma with two quail finds and a woodcock find way off course. Both of these dogs were handled by Dave Hughes. Third was Rockaway handled by Tony Bly. Rocky registered one broke find to go along with a forward classy race in the heat. Close to the winners was Grouse Ridge Jerry with three finds and Teddy with two. We want to thank all who came and ran dogs, also our judges, and people who came and helped out and didn't even run dogs. Some planted birds, moved cars, drove the gallery wagon etc. all. We had several newcomers yesterday which was nice. The wild bird numbers again were strong and if all goes well we should be on the rebound for particularly grouse numbers this summer and fall with woodcock numbers looking unusually strong. |
