Here are the UNREVISED standings. There are likely to be some errors and changes as it becomes public. Let's work together to get it correct. Remember that the trials listed must be open and pay a purse. The derby stakes, in addition, must accompany an open, all-breed, multiple course grouse/woodcock stake.
The standings are listed in the following tables and beneath those the dogs are listed in no particular order along with the trials and number of points. The points come from entries, not starters. Again, this is not the final list as there are likely corrections to be made. Thank you all for your co-operation
The overall rules for the awards are that the trials must be open, pay a significant purse, and must not limit entries. Championships and classics generally do not limit entries anyhow, so most of these apply to derby stakes. Not always do situations and developments fit neatly into a set of rules. The awards shall try to be generous in their interpretations and make decisions based on past practice and common sense.
Field trials are public events and the results are public facts. The awards use public results of the trials to calculate the points tallies for the winning dogs. The Awards are independent of trial clubs and do not require clubs to advertise, promote the award, nor does any club or individual need to apply in any way for points. This also means that neither clubs, nor individuals can choose to 'opt out.' An individual may choose to refuse to accept the winner's check, but the dog will still be listed as the winner of the award.
The awards would rather that clubs do not advertise a trial for awards points, but if clubs do so, we suggest that they print "points eligible." Whether points are actually awarded to that trial or stake depends on whether all the criteria established by the awards have been met for that particular stake. If a club advertises that it is a "points trial" and then points are not awarded, it is the responsibility of the club for this action.
1. All Open Championships that run on Ruffed grouse and/or North American Woodcock count for points. In addition, The Kilkenny Classic and The Armstrong Umbel Classic are points eligible.
2. The trial must not limit entries or refuse any eligible runnable dogs as defined by The Minimum Requirements For Dogs.
3. A purse deemed significant must awarded to the winning handlers.
4. A new club or a new stake must be run for two years to have a chance to be points eligible. The club should run in accordance to the other listed criteria during this period to best assure points eligibility during this probationary period.
5. Significant format changes of a stake which may result in a significant points swing may also take 2 years until the higher points kick in.
Points are awarded as follows:
Champion: 12 X # of entries.
Runner up: 8 X # of entries
Hour Classic
Classic winner 8 X # of entries
Classic runner-up 2 X # of entries
Should a championship stake be reverted to a shooting dog stake, points will be awarded to the first two places as in an hour classic. If a classic is reverted to a shoting dog stake, no points will be awarded.
1. A derby stake must be scheduled and run in conjunction with a
scheduled and officially recognized open, all-breed, all-age, broke dog
stake in order to be eligible for points.
5. Significant format changes of a stake which may result in significant points swing may also take 2 years until the higher points kick in.
6. The points shall be calculated as follows:
1/2 hour:
First Place: 4 X # of entries.
Second Place: 2 X # of entries.
Third Place: 1 X # of entries.
1 hour doubles the points.
Any new rules shall require a majority vote by the board to enact.
Overturning or changing any existing rule shall require a 60% vote by
the board.
This opens a table that along the bottom of the table are tabs to open the various awards
1) It is a setter award conducted in conjunction with the English Setter Fund.
2) All open cover (grouse and woodcock) championships and one classic from each Grand National Region (Kilkenny Classic, Fruchey Classic & Armstrong-Smith Classic) are eligible for points.
3). Trial clubs are not to restrict eligible dogs or handlers in any way from entering or competing. A. A significant purse must be awarded.
4). Points are awarded as follows:
Champion: 12 X # of entries.
Runner up: 8 X # of entries
Classic winner 8 X # of entries
Classic runner-up 4 X # of entries
Classic 3rd place 2 X # of entries
Should a championship be reverted, points will awarded as a classic.
5) Clubs are not required to advertise this award in the American Field as a condition of receiving points for the winners. Clubs are also warned that advertising the trial as a 'points trial' does not make it so if, due to some rare circumstance, a rule violation (American Field or Seminatore Award) might render a placement or a trial ineligible for points.)
If a club does advertise, it is therefore suggested that it uses "Michael A. Seminatore points eligible."
